Friday, February 20th, 2009 by Servage
find-us-on-facebookIn the beginning of February I started a little competition, promising 5 years of free hosting among the first 1,000 fans of our Servage Hosting Facebook page - and even 10 years of free hosting if 1,000 fans would be reached already by March 1st 2009. I am happy to see that 350 people have done that so far, and with 9 days to go there still is time to get a total of 1,000 people! So ask around, invite people, get them to join! Exclusive preview on email filtering

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009 by Servage
mailfilterLast fall Servage introduced global server-side spam- and virus-filtering. The anti-spam functionality is powered by a customizable SpamAssassin system, which enables you to set an own set of rules for the handling of junk mail. The virus filter is powered by ClamAV which removes any email that includes malware. Since its introduction the system has identified hundreds of thousands of unsolicited mails being sent to email accounts hosted at Servage. In the meantime a number of customers have requested a filtering option to allow even more advanced and powerful rules for email-handling. With filters one could for example automatically collect messages from a specific sender, addressed to a specific recipient, containing certain words ...

Showcase your project

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009 by Servage
showcases1I have noticed many customers doing really cool stuff with their Servage web hosting account. There are lots of small businesses with fancy web-pages, innovative community-sites, slick private home-pages and more. We thought it would be really cool to show these projects to other users to spread an inspirational vibe. Therefore we are giving you the possibility to create a showcase of your project. Create a one-page-website, a video, a Flash animation, or utilize some other media to present how you have used Servage features to create your project. Upload the showcase to your Servage hosting account and send the URL to us at showcase@servage.net (please submit your showcase until February 22nd 2009). Thereafter we will review ...

Open source routing anniversary

Monday, February 2nd, 2009 by Servage
network_cableAbout one year ago we gave ourselves the task to get fairly common server hardware perform the tasks of traditional and (very) expensive commercial routers. Our network has been using open source based border routers (BGP/OSPF) for over a year now and performance and availability of the network has improved considerably. Plain simply we can now build better and even more redundancy into our network with the available resources. We chose an open source routing platform that uses a Cisco-like syntax and similar commands. That made the transition convenient and our routing specialists could work with the new system the same way as they were used to. This avoided human errors that are ...

GeoIP Security for your peace of mind

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009 by Servage
geoip_globeUnfortunately it is a fact that security threats are a reality on the Internet! To address these and to make your hosting package even more secure we have launched GeoIP Security. This enables you to prohibit possible intruders to gain access to your account based on their geographic location or IP address. You can enable GeoIP Security in the control panel, where you also have the ability to specify specific countries and IPs to allow access. How does this work? Whenever someone tries to login the user is verified against our database to identify if that particular user is allowed to login from that particular geographic location or IP address. We also created an email ...

wiki_booksServage customers are often well acquainted with the latest online trends. You could call them trendsetters in the online world. As such they also have many questions. Until now only a few of those questions were answered with the available resources on our website and in the control panel. blog_rssHi, this is Jakob from Servage Hosting. I am really happy to welcome you to our new blog. The place for interaction and true conversations! You may ask yourself "Why are you starting up a blog?" - and I agree, there are many valid points for asking that question. Some of them are that it is not exactly a new phenomenon.
