What is Let’s encrypt SSL? How do I benefit from it?

Let’s Encrypt is a security service supported by several major IT companies such as Google or Facebook. The service offers SSL certificates for a very low price. Using SSL (Secure Socket Layer) provides a secure connection when you visit a particular website. It ensures that while surfing, the connection between the website and the user is encrypted and hence secured.  You find very detailed information about on the technology e.g. on THIS page

Why is Let’s Encrypt for free or very inexpensive?

The reason is behind the “Certificate authorities (CAs)” Certificate authorities are entities that cryptographically sign TLS/SSL certificates to vouch for their authenticity. Browsers and operating systems have a list of trusted CAs that they use to verify site certificates. Until recently, most CAs were commercial operations that charged money for their verification and signing services. Let’s Encrypt has made this process free for users by completely automating the procedure, and by relying on sponsorship and donations to fund the necessary infrastructure. Hence, Servage can provide two Let’s Encrypt for free and additional ones for a pretty small amount.

Key Differences Between Let’s Encrypt and Paid SSL

Basically, Let’s Encrypt is ideal for your basic HTTPS usage, smaller sites and blogs, where HTTPS is nice to have but not mission-critical.If you not sure whether the paid SSL or Let’s Encrypt is the right choice for you, check the following points and make up your mind whats best for you:

Pro Let’s Encrypt

– Very inexpensive/for free
– Very quick to setup — normally you have a live SSL in a few minutes.
– Translate to better SEO results.

Pro Paid SSL

– Supply Domain Validated certificates that include a warranty
– Approval can be done using Email
– Duration 12 months
– Translate to better SEO results.
