Structure the test-process of web design

When someone approaches a web designer for a project, she certainly has some definite goals in her mind to achieve through that website. Therefore, we web designers ultimately place the question that what she expects by creating this website at first place. If someone has a B2C or e-commerce business she would think that how she would have good traffic and ultimate customers through an effective web design.

Here our main concern is to create graphics and coding in such a way that web site works for the client, means it helps client to achieve her goals. When a client explains her business or goal of the website, we generally try to fit it in a particular category, which exists on the web. Our efforts are in a direction to get some example website for our client that fits in her expectations. Mostly we persuade to get examples from the client herself so we have to do lesser efforts to furnish her desires.

This approach is good at an extent, but not all the time. I say this because every business is unique hence its customers and their behaviors. If we accept this fact early and go ahead to get real insights for the targeted audience we would have greater chances to develop a website that definitely work for the client. Our client will get good traffic, repeated business and good profit. Conclusively we can say that putting ourselves in the shoe of the client and her target audience we would have credit to create a unique and useful website at our end.

You may argue that this is okay for the new website designing project where you need to have fresh look towards the client and her targeted audience, but what about the redesigning project. All right, we have to act differently in this case. We should have some data regarding to the user behaviors on the old design. Therefore, before starting website redesigning you have to spend some time on the old design and collect the data to carry out some statistical tests like A/B test on the behavior or the visitors and customers on old against the new design when you accomplish your task.

This approach also will give some more insights of the user behaviors to get good clues to take right decisions to select the features, functionality and technologies for redesigning. If you are a bit experienced web designer, you might get clue that I am talking about the usability here. In due course, you should use good usability tools in your armor like and are offering. These tools are designed in smart ways to extract the desired information from the visitors.

Apart from usability, many other factors influence the success of the website like speed and performance. When we say about the speed of the site we have a very handy tool to gauge that and that is Google Page Speed or other page speed measuring tools, which are for free! When you use these tools to test your website design for a definite period you may have enough data to show your client that your design is working in real life and increasing traffic through some small and big changes. This may assure your client that she will get repeat customers in long run will have good fortune with her website.

However, persuading client that your designing approaches are working for her using some paid tools is bit costly affair for you, but that will reward you in long run. Do you want to know how? Once your website design is working for a client she definitely will spread some good words in her personal as well as professional circles. If you wish to leverage this goodwill in your favor, you can ask her to give good reviews or testimonials on your as well as other review sites in form of text or videos.
