“The historical reasons why you might’ve wanted to go for a subdomain don’t really apply as much, and that leaves you with, okay both are on the same domain, overall, and so it’s really a question of which one is easier for you..” - Matt Cutts, Head of Google’s Webspam Team, Halloween 2012
With his brief message in late 2012, Cutts updated the ongoing dispute between between making use of subdomains and subdirectories. Google has basically made the two virtually equal in the SEO game, where previously subdomains were given an edge for the ability to provide a sense of unique linking.

This article targets Mac users who are relatively new to web development (there will be a similar post for Windows users very soon). The applications listed here are mostly for basic to intermediate web development and design. Seasoned developers tend to use tools that build and manage code, plus aid with server implementation. I’ll make a brief mention of those, at the end.
Applications are listed within categories alphabetically to overcome any bias toward favored apps. The categories start with what is perhaps easiest software to grasp for development to ones that rely on more skills and knowledge. Some categories include free tools and are noted.
Website Creation Tools - Simple
These apps ...

Sub-menus on a website allow for prominent links to be placed just below the level of top navigation. They present a cleaner layout for the site’s navigation, and allow side panel links to be employed for other connection types that are perhaps unique to certain pages or sections of a site.
This tutorial is for adding simple sub-menus on a Joomla site and is particularly aimed at users who might be getting onboard with Joomla 3.0. A simple sub-menu in Joomla allows for several options, some of which will be noted in the tutorial. Not all Joomla templates though, allow for sub-menus on the fly. With some coding, it can be done and these advanced steps will be the topic for ...

When we start web design, we have to think about the UIs at planning stage. Generally, we concentrate on our target audience, which we have defined it in our initial research. Some say that Wordpress is for creating blogs and Joomla is for creating traditional content sites. Those must be the old-timers who say this, as both platforms nowadays are great Content Management Systems (CMS), capable of creating both types of sites.
As blogs continue to grow in use and popularity, a modern CMS is sure to include the basic elements on its platform. Other than Wordpress, many rely on third party developers to create extensions that bring blogging tools to the core function of the CMS. For Joomla, that has traditionally been the case. With version 3.0 of Joomla, that is changing.
All blogs have three essential elements: posts (aka articles), categories ...

In the beginning stage of web designing vertical menu was a trend and freely used in all circumstances. There were one or two level deep navigation systems prevailing in the market. Therefore, vertical navigation was serving the purposes.
However, vertical menu is not obsolete and very few web designers are going to use vertical menu in their modern style website designing. Therefore, we will discuss that when it should and shouldn’t be used in present scenario. In a website design, we may encounter many problems that generally can’t solve by traditional or standard practices, but we have to deviate from the path and take entirely different ways. The same is true for me when I decided to play with colors in a website designing project. My intention was not limited up to colors, but to go some further in styles. However, CSS is good and CSS 3 is better, but in case of color variation or gradients that demands color code, which you have to take frequently from the color picker. Therefore, I have decided to add something in CSS so I have taken help from ...

Website is a bunch of code, data, designs and all technical stuff and we used to leave it as such. Therefore, when someone seat in front of computer and open a website she feels that she is interacting with a machine. However, web professional try hard to make website human friendly by inducing good texts, eye candy images, icons which are telling things other ways than written texts and a lot more. These all efforts are in one direction and that makes website less technical anyhow.
There are many ways to do this. For instance, we can use the colors and layouts, which can create an atmosphere that is most familiar ...

There has been a long battle fought for the supremacy in web development between HTML5 and XHTML. HTML5 is the upcoming version of the HTML markup language around which all of the webpages are based while XHTML is the combination of HTML4 with elements of XML 1.0.
XHTML –Extensible Hyper Text Markup Language is a web document standard passed in 2000 after standardization of HTML4. Unlike HTML$ which allowed lenient syntax, the XHTML follows strict XML standards allowing the documents to be parsed easily by the web browsers. XHTML is a meta-language that is it is a language for describing a markup language. SGML –Standard Generalized Markup Language formed basis for ...
